oooo... Spidey...

I did this sketch a while ago, totally forgot about it. So I thought I'd try to polish it up a bit with some new colors. I like the sketch, but the colors... didn't like them last night, tonight I kinda do. So there you go. Hope somebody else does too...

mmmm... monster...

This here's a guy that's going to be in the next series of 100 Girls. He actually came about from a pin-up one of Adam's friends did for us in issue 4 of the first series. We both liked it so much that we wanted to use it in one of the stories. So here's the original pin-up, done by the highly talented Ben Stenbeck as well as my stylized bastardization. Hope you like one or both of 'em!

an oldie...

This here's a design I did for a creature that had a central role in the comic I did called "Hell". Sadly it didn't get used. My writer wanted something more human looking, so I ended up doing a couple other designs and going with something much simpler. Which was fine, but I always liked this one best. It's kinda like a bird bred with an Alien... Anyways, maybe I'll try and use this thing at a later date...

dood...les...

So, I'm not much of a doodler. I really need to know what I'm going to draw before I do; creating a little story in my head even if it's only for one drawing. My buddy Scott Underwood is a fantastic doodler (as well as an all round tremendous artist). He has this ability to kind of start with any line or squiggle and make it into something funny and interesting. So, in honour of Scott, and also to try working some muscles that I never do, I too tried just drawing without thinking. This here's one that I quite liked! Here's to you Diggs!

a quickie...

this here's just a wee sketch I did of Sylvia (the main character in 100 Girls)... It's a much different sort of look than what's in the comics, but I liked how it turned out anyway...

R.I.P. Zombie Cop

Ah... we hardly knew ye. Zombie Cop (or Zombie 5-0 or Dead Cop Walking - my personal favorite) was a potential project that Adam (my friend who write 100 Girls) and I were totally going to do. I loved it. However, we dragged our collective heels for the last year and a half or so and not 1 but 2 projects came out that were waaay too similar. One was published by a company called Alias, and the other by Ben Templsmith of 30 Days of Night fame. Since neither Adam or I feel like being either sued or coming off as aping anyone, we have put the kibosh on the idea, at least for the time being. My hope is that one day we'll be able to resurrect him once more... no pun intended. These 3 drawings were just some doodles I did while trying to figure out what exactly he'd look like. I colored them today in photoshop just cause I recently learned some new tricks and was playing around... the colors're okay... nothing to write home aboot. Anyhow...

You like me... You really like me...

So, yeah. Turns out I won an award last night. Best Storyboard for Animation at the 1st Annual Canadian Awards for the Electronic & Animated Arts. I won it with my good friend Chez Battista (What's going on?) who co-boarded an episode of Class of the Titans with me. We won for an episode called "Make-up Exam". Thanks to those who've already sent their best wishes! Also, here's a quick sketch of a pretty Asian Lady cause I haven't posted anything in like a week! Yeah, so there you go...

... and now for something completely different...

... sorta just what I said. I actually drew this at the booth at the Chicago Con, but it really has nothing to do with comics or anything. Just sort of came out, and I liked it.... yeah...

no... not a vampire...

... just felt like using the grey markers, then decided to make the lips red. Though, I do concede she does look awful vampire-ish...

marker fun...

Just a wee sketch I did the other day, playing with the markers. Colour is not really my thing so I'm trying to experiment with it a little, trying to get better (which is a little tough when you only have a handful of colours to choose from...) I don't know if this works or not but I think I kinda like it, so there you go...

The Thing

Not much to say about this... it is what it is... I suppose it could do with some colours. Maybe someday...

Lucy

Just a wee drawring I did recently... A little different than my usual stuff, but I think I like it. It's her expression... sort of a resigned fury. Anyhow...

Ladies...

...cause I like drawing ladies. They're pretty... the coloured one I did right after I got some new markers... turned out okay, I guess..

Batgirl and Hans Olo...

Just a couple more pics... The Batgirl was something I drew for the hell of it, cause I like the character (the new Batgirl) and am saddened by the fact that her monthly series is no more. The Han Solo was done for the Star Wars Celebration last year, and it was inked by the incomparable Howard Shum, creator of Gun-Fu and Intrigue among many fine others... Anyhoo hope you likey!

What the hell...

Well, I wasn't going to post anything today, but I figured, what the hell... (a phrase so nice, you gotta say it twice!) Anyhow, these are a couple recent sketches of another character of mine called Dalton. She's just an old fashioned Cow-girl lady. I actually drew an 8 page short featuring her... jeez, aboot 4 years ago. Anyhow, it's not great, but it was the first comic I drew since I was a wee bairn, so I'm okay with it... I suppose I'll have to post that at some point. Plus check out some of the links... Some are friends, all of 'em are artists, and all are super sweet (that's for Toomey). Anyhow, hopes you like these!

Um... I couldn't post 'em all at once. So here are the rest...

100 Girls n' COTT stuff

Well, thanks for the support family and friends, and even from some folks I don't know! Wonder of wonders! Anyhow, I figured I'd post a couple things that have been asked for. A few pages from the most recent 100 Girls comic, which, while it has been delayed, should be out in stores come Nov/ Dec. Also, for those COTT fans, is an early concept sketch for a Werewolf that will be appearing in an episode of season 2. It's an early concept, so it's not quite to the design of the show, but I felt it captured the feel of what I was going for... Anyhoo...

A journey of a thousand miles begins with a single step...

... or so they say... Whoever "they" are...
Anyhow, here I am finally getting a blog going and posting some of my work. I've been resistant to this for a good long time, and I couldn't really say why. Probably because I'm nervous about showing my work, which is weird because I draw for a living and people see my stuff all the time on a fairly large scale. But these decisions are rarely logic based, so there you go... Anyhow, to the drawings! The Super-Girl-Lady is a drawing I did of a friend last year that I thought turned out well, so here it is. Next is a drawing I did of Venom a couple years ago. This particular drawing has actually been floating around the web for a while, I know it was on Deviant Art for a time, so it might seem familiar. Usually I don't like anything I did more than a month ago, but for whatever reason this seems to stand out, and I still really like it, so there you go.

It was coloured (I'm Canadian, so it's not a typo) by a friend of mine, Jeremy Treece. I think he did a spectacular job! The last 2 are, of course, Hellboy. The coloured one is actually a Convention sketch I did at the Wizard World Chicago a week and a half ago. Love the character, love drawing him. Though whether or not I did him justice is up to whomever ...um..., yeah! Hope anyone who sees these likes 'em! I'd love to hear any comments, even bad ones so long as they're constructive... Cheers!
